A politically charged Interstate 75 bridge project near Cincinnati State Technical & Community College is officially off the table, the state announced Wednesday. Neither the money nor political will existed to continue on with the $42 million Elmore Connector overpass, putting an end to a project that former Cincinnati State President O’Dell Owens had championed during his five years on the Clifton campus. To the ire of those attending a recent Oakley Community Council meeting, a controversial development plan has been approved. During its May meeting, council approved a development plan for a five-story mixed-use structure at the corner of Madison Road and Taylor Avenue. The vote was 6 to 3. (Community Press)

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will begin enforcement of the new respirable crystalline silica standard for the construction industry on September 23, 2017. The new rule calls for employers to use measurable engineering controls – like ventilation and wet methods for cutting and sawing – to reduce workers’ exposure to silica dust. While the revised rule is expected to reduce the risk of disease among workers, education regarding adherence will be key to compliance. ACI invites you to attend a free informational session to learn more about the final rule, training, record keeping and available resources.

Colerain Township officials are pushing forward with promises to make township streets a priority, unanimously approving a summer road contract at the May 9 board meeting that spends more than $1.25 million to repair township streets. The township is funneling money from the Rumpke settlement and $1 million in reserve funds into street repairs this summer. (Community Press).
