Barb Smith knows the difficulties women face entering construction fields. Smith, the CEO of Roselawn steel fabrication company Journey Steel, has spent nearly three decades working for local companies before founding her own firm in 2009. For about the same amount of time she has heard from critics of her skills, intellect or ability to manage large projects.
With the construction beginning soon on the Kroger Marketplace, officials say Colerain Township is set to once again have a banner year in economic development. Frank Birkenhauer, economic development director, said there was a great deal of interest in Colerain Township at the annual International Council of Shopping Center’s RECon in Las Vegas in May. The convention has more than 35,000 attendees and is one of the largest retail real estate events in the world.
