On Feb. 11, AIA Georgia hosted the Annual AIA Georgia Grassroots Day at the Georgia Capitol. AIA Georgia members, as well as students from SCAD and Kennesaw State University, were present to hear comments from Commissioner Knowles with the Department of Community Affairs and Marvin Woodward, Deputy State Property Officer with Georgia Building Authority.

The goal of this project is to create a unique spatial experience that complements the AIA Convention with a large scale design element accessible to thousands of architects and designers from across the country. With the relocation to the secondary installation site, the structure will help create public awareness and appreciation of built design, and the influence it can have on the way we live.

The Atlanta Bridgescape Competition is an urban design challenge seeking creative strategies to enhance existing freeway infrastructure in Midtown and Downtown Atlanta, Ga. The competition seeks broad participation from multi-disciplinary design teams to develop innovative approaches for enhancing existing infrastructure in a manner that will elevate the experience of travelers along the Connector and improve the environment for pedestrians and cyclists on the bridge surfaces.

This year the Architectural Design Center in partnership with AIA Georgia, AIA Atlanta and Georgia Tech Archive will host an exhibit centered around the ever-expanding palimpsest of history that is Peachtree Street. The idea of "usable history" is very much at play here as hopes of an expanded archive of significant architecture and other design documents and objects recording the culture and history of architecture and related fields in Georgia will grow.
