The 2013 legislative session is finally over, wrapping up Day 40 on March 28 just before midnight. The General Assembly’s constitutional obligation to pass a balanced budget was met on the last day of the legislative session. As is normally true with the legislature, most of the action took place around crunch time, or Day 30 (Crossover Day) and Day 40 (Sine Die).

On Thursday, April 11, the College of Architecture will open its final 60th anniversary exhibition - displaying the work of School of Architecture alumni, 1952-2012. The opening reception will be from 6-8 p.m. in Stubbins Gallery and will feature over 1,100 images submitted by more than 200 alumni.

April 26-28, Milledgeville, Ga. The Spring Ramble to Milledgeville is a weekend of stunning private homes, fascinating architectural gems and unique historic landmarks. Historic Liberty Street contains some of the city’s most impressive examples of ante- and post-bellum architecture. Tour notable homes including the 1894 Harrington House, with its charming Queen Anne gingerbread trim, lovely turret with stained glass windows. Explore examples of the unique "Milledgeville Federal" style in homes such as The Cedars, built in 1822 and featuring a cantilevered balcony, inverted flute Ionic columns, and inside, a "floating" staircase and a hand-carved mantel.

Friday, May 3, 2013. Atlanta Streets Alive has grown from a few thousand participants on Edgewood Avenue in 2010 to a projected 30,000 on Peachtree Street in 2013. The success of the event serves as a powerful reminder that there is demand for a walkable, bikeable, people-powered city. At the close of the event cars regain control of the streets, but participants are left inspired by the potential for walk and bikeability in Atlanta. This discussion will focus on how events like Atlanta Streets Alive can bridge the gap between public opinion and policy and how we can move towards a human-powered Atlanta.

Architects Submit Your Design Projects and Join the Race! The Race is a friendly competition among organizations and architects across the country to see who submits the most projects that achieve Designed to Earn the ENERGY STAR. The project’s region will be determined by ZIP code for one of three U.S regions: Wild West, Big Easy Central, and East Coast. The region with the most projects by the deadline wins the Race. Deadline for submissions is May 10, 2013.
