About the 2016 SAR Conference in Savannah, GA: Growability: Handling Growth & Density The communities across our region are experiencing unprecedented growth due to the desirability of the South Atlantic - quality of life, the environment, and jobs. As our cities and towns become more dense, we are experiencing resistance to this change, with current residents becoming increasingly vocal in their opposition to larger projects, taller buildings, and increased traffic. How can design excellence overcome these challenges, and what role can architects play in making our built environments vibrant and desirable to all of our citizens?Learn more about the schedule and Emerging Professionals track.

From paintings and sculptures to fashion and live performance, we’re looking for the best art that Atlanta has to offer. Submissions are now open for URBANfronts, returning for a fourth year this September 22nd. This year’s theme is the "Intersection of Nature and Technology." In today’s world, technology has become as ubiquitous as nature in many aspects of our life. The impact of the built environment we have created has now overcome the resilience of the natural ecosystems we depend on. URBANfronts will now explore the intersection of technology and nature through creative investigations of art, architecture and performing arts.

SCAD presents "Interior States," an exhibition by photographer Sarah Hobbs. Hobbs says of her practice, "The viewer is not merely a visitor but is called to participate in completing the work through identifying or sympathizing with the image." Hobbs assembles complex installations in private spaces, such as domestic interiors, hotel rooms and self-storage facilities. These installations wryly portray psychological traits, and Hobbs exaggerates familiar emotions, such as indecisiveness, perfectionism, denial or escapism. She photographs her installations, producing images that are simultaneously absurd and darkly humorous, and are primarily printed in large formats to invite the viewer to "enter" the space. The photographs in "Interior States" were created between 1999 and 2016, and the exhibition is a concise survey of Hobbs’ photographic works to date. Now through Sunday, Sept 24th.
