In these tumultuous times, the ability to lead through chaos is an invaluable skill. In this article, we explore the value of leading through chaos and the importance of remaining steady in our pursuit of excellence.
I recently received a gift from a friend, In Fear is my Homeboy. What a special gift from a special friend and one that is so personal for me right now. As you have read my articles over the last several months, you have noticed my interest in “courage and bravery” in both my personal and professional lives. In this book, Judi Holler shares many strategies for turning fear into courage and bravery and demonstrates how you can then use that shift from fear as your “secret weapon.”
This past weekend, the weather in NH was beautiful, and I was finally able to finish planting my tomato and pepper starts into my raised garden beds. After gardening for many years, this was my first year starting from seed. It was quite unnerving because I always thought of seedlings as delicate. I nurtured them for many weeks by ensuring they were watered, fertilized, received adequate amounts of light, and even a gentle breeze. I ensured their environment was well-controlled. Then, a week prior to planting them in the garden, I took them outside to get acclimated to the stronger light, the stronger wind and lower temps. I was worried. Outside conditions are not as controlled ─ there are so many variables.

Build a more resilient supply chain
ECRI Institute®
Ongoing shortages of critical medical devices highlight problems with the current “just in time” global supply chain model and the impact of local inventory on patient care. Building a resilient supply chain addresses these issues. To be successful, leaders need expert advice on how to navigate out-of-stock situations, evaluate and minimize category risk, and diversify for resiliency, which will ultimately drive an HRO model.

Supply Chain Brain
For the average consumer, supply disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic over the past three years were a matter of mere inconvenience. That wasn’t the case with medical device manufacturers, for whom the stakes were dramatically higher. The medical device category covers everything from 10-cent bandages to seven-figure MRI machines. At the lower-price end, doctors and nurses were forced to wear the same masks for five days straight, duct taping them after they tore.

Medical Device and Diagnostic Industry
Rural hospital executives acknowledge that it’s difficult to attract clinicians and other critical workers who may prefer to live in more urban settings. It also becomes more challenging to bring workers from minority communities to areas where most of the residents are white.
Value-based care doesn’t stop at discharge
Molnlycke Health Care®
As the healthcare industry embraces a value-based care model, it’s time for Integrated Delivery Networks (IDNs) to reimagine patient transitions throughout the continuum of care. Lack of
standardization between acute and post-acute care creates opportunity for failure points and worsened patient outcomes. By promoting communication, coordination, and consistency of care in each step of the patient journey, IDNs can maximize total value and achieve improved outcomes across the board.

In recent years, there has been a huge demand for enhancing supply chain efficiency within the healthcare industry to reduce costs and improve patient outcomes. This involves initiatives to streamline processes, optimize inventory management, and utilize data analytics to gain deeper insights into patient and provider requirements.

Revcycle Intelligence
There is mounting concern among some US lawmakers about the nation’s ongoing shortage of health-care workers, and the leaders of historically Black medical schools are calling for more funding to train a more diverse workforce. As of Monday, in areas where a health workforce shortage has been identified, the United States needs more than 17,000 additional primary care practitioners, 12,000 dental health practitioners and 8,200 mental health practitioners, according to data from the Health Resources & Services Administration.

Fierce Healthcare
Millions of Americans in the past few years have run into this experience: filing a health care insurance claim that once might have been paid immediately but instead is just as quickly denied. If the experience and the insurer’s explanation often seem arbitrary and absurd, that might be because companies appear increasingly likely to employ computer algorithms or people with little relevant experience to issue rapid-fire denials of claims—sometimes bundles at a time—without reviewing the patient’s medical chart.

The New York Times
Thousands of patients are facing delays in getting treatments for cancer and other life-threatening diseases, with drug shortages in the United States approaching record levels. Hospitals are scouring shelves for supplies of a drug that reverses lead poisoning and for a sterile fluid needed to stop the heart for bypass surgery. Some antibiotics are still scarce following the winter flu season when doctors and patients frantically chased medicines for ailments like strep throat.
