Leadership
As I come to the end of my term as President of AHVAP this December, I find myself reflecting with deep gratitude and pride on all that we have accomplished together — and what better place to do that than at our recent AHVAP National Conference in Dallas!
The energy coming out of the 2025 AHVAP Annual Conference and Industry Partner Expo was nothing short of extraordinary. Over several days, hundreds of healthcare value analysis professionals, industry partners, and thought leaders gathered with a shared purpose — to learn, connect, innovate, and advance the profession we all care so deeply about. From the first keynote to the closing session, there was an unmistakable sense that something powerful is happening within AHVAP — a movement toward greater professionalism, collaboration, and leadership across the healthcare value analysis ecosystem. I would like to thank our Conference Committee, Executive Leaders Fellow Volunteers, the Board of Directors, and Team AHVAP for their exceptional work in supporting this year’s conference.
My cup is full — truly full — after our incredible 2025 AHVAP Annual Conference. This year’s theme, “Catalysts for A Resilient Future,” could not have been more fitting.  A heartfelt thank you to Dr Hudson Garrett, Team AHVAP, all our attendees, speakers, poster presenters, industry partners, and all those who made this event a success.  Over the course of the event, I witnessed firsthand the passion, intelligence, and collaboration that define our membership. The energy was electric. The conversations were rich. And the sense of shared purpose was palpable in every corner of the conference space.
Successful Value Analysis (VA) depends on collaboration — not just among clinicians and supply chain professionals, but with our industry partners as well. When approached thoughtfully, these relationships can accelerate innovation, improve patient outcomes, and advance organizational goals. Yet, as many of us have experienced, the quality of these partnerships can vary widely. Let’s take a candid look at the good, the bad, and the ugly of partnering with industry in Value Analysis.

Industry News and Developments

Dear AHVAP Members and Colleagues,

The following message is being communicated to all AHVAP members at the request of our partners at the US Food and Drug Administration:

FDA is requiring labeling changes to strengthen the warnings that tranexamic acid injection should be administered only intravenously (into the vein). Tranexamic acid injection products are not to be administered intrathecally (into the spine) or as an epidural injection. FDA is taking this action after having identified and evaluated medication error cases of inadvertent neuraxial (intrathecal or epidural) administration of tranexamic acid. In these cases, tranexamic acid was erroneously administered neuraxially instead of the intended local anesthetic (e.g., bupivacaine, lidocaine, mepivacaine, and ropivacaine), which resulted in serious patient outcomes, including prolonged hospitalization and death.
