Leadership
Every professional journey begins with possibility—a spark of purpose, a calling, a drive to make a difference. But as any seasoned healthcare professional or value analysis expert knows, success is not just about ambition—it is about connection, growth, and intentional belonging.
As professionals in the field of healthcare value analysis, we are often tasked with evaluating the worth of products, services, and technologies. But how often do we turn that same lens inward, examining how much we truly value our own professional development and career growth?
In June, my daughter applied for and was accepted to an externship at a local hospital. This program focuses on providing aspiring healthcare professionals with a closer look into all care areas of a healthcare facility. This experience will allow her to spend one day shadowing various team members throughout the organization. She is scheduled to rotate through areas ranging from wound care to oncology, ICU to EVS, Supply Chain to ER, and everywhere in between. This will provide an exceptional look into how each department functions in the care of the patient and how each can work together to improve the health of the community they serve. To say I am proud of my 16-year-old is an understatement. But it comes with trepidation.
As Jana Oliver wisely said, “A soul is forged in the fires of adversity, not in comfort.” These words echo powerfully into the current state of healthcare, where challenges are not just occasional; they are constant. Whether facing workforce shortages, rising costs, the integration of new technology, or a global pandemic, the healthcare industry is continually tested. But like metal tempered by fire, it is in these trials that the soul of healthcare becomes stronger, more resilient, and more innovative.

Industry News and Developments

Dear AHVAP Members and Partners:

The following communication is being provided urgently to all AHVAP members at the request of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. AHVAP is a member of the Infragard National Alliance Program.

The ongoing Iran conflict is causing a heightened threat environment in the United States. Low-level cyber attacks against US networks by pro-Iranian hacktivists are likely, and cyber actors affiliated with the Iranian government may conduct attacks against US networks. Iran also has a long-standing commitment to target US Government officials it views as responsible for the death of an Iranian military commander killed in January 2020.

The likelihood of violent extremists in the Homeland independently mobilizing to violence in response to the conflict would likely increase if Iranian leadership issued a religious ruling calling for retaliatory violence against targets in the Homeland. Multiple recent Homeland terrorist attacks have been motivated by anti-Semitic or anti-Israel sentiment, and the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict could contribute to US-based individuals plotting additional attacks.

Please refer to the attached Homeland Security Bulletin for detailed information from the Department of Homeland Security.
