2025 AHVAP Annual Conference & Industry Partner Expo Opening Keynote Speaker Revealed!

The Association of Healthcare Value Analysis Professionals (AHVAP) is thrilled to unveil our Opening Keynote Presenter for the upcoming 2025 Association of Healthcare Value Analysis Professionals (AHVAP) Annual Conference & Industry Partner Expo in October. Dr. Michael (Mike) Bell, MD, is the Director of the Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion (DHQP) in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases in Atlanta, GA, at CDC’s International Headquarters.

He has served as deputy director of DHQP since 2010 and was selected as Acting Director of DHQP in 2023. DHQP promotes the protection of patients and healthcare personnel and improvements in safety and quality of health care. Examples of activities include producing guidelines for medical device safety, prevention of healthcare associated infections (HAI), programs for combating antimicrobial resistance (AR), and improvements in basic safe medical practices such as safe injections and medical product safety. DHQP is the responsible group within CDC that tackles adverse drug events; blood, organ, and tissue safety; immunization safety; and other related adverse events or medical errors in healthcare affecting patients and healthcare personnel. This is a pivotal intersection point for healthcare value analysis.

Dr. Bell was previously the chief of the Epidemiology Unit at the Viral Special Pathogens Branch, addressing infection control for high-risk pathogens such as Ebola virus. His first position at CDC was in the Hospital Infections Program (DHQP's previous name), investigating outbreaks of healthcare-associated illness and writing national infection control guidelines. Dr. Bell received his medical degree from the University of Washington and trained in Internal Medicine at the University of Colorado, and in Infectious Diseases at the University of California San Francisco.
