About Dr. Gwinn:

Dr. Gwinn is the Associate Director for Postmarket Programs at the Center for Devices and Radiological Health at the FDA. In this role, she provides leadership in Signal management, including regarding Strategic Priorities regarding Signals and related Postmarket issues. She also serves as a liaison across the organization for postmarket activities.

Prior to this, Dr. Gwinn served as Chief Medical officer for the Office of Neurology, Neurosurgery, Psychiatry and Rehabilitation, and as an FDA medical reviewer of premarket and postmarket devices.

Prior to coming to FDA in 2017, Dr. Gwinn worked at the NIH as a Program Director at the Neurology Institute (NINDS). At NIH, Dr. Gwinn managed complex international projects in Human Genetics, rare Neurological disorders, and Parkinson’s disease biomarkers among others.

Dr. Gwinn is licensed in Maryland and board-certified by the American Board of Neurology and Psychiatry. She attended Wellesley College where she received a BA degree, Vanderbilt School of Medicine (MD) where she also served as an intern (General Medicine) followed by a residency at the University of Michigan (Neurology). She did a fellowship at Mayo Clinic Scottsdale (Parkinson’s Disease and other movement disorders). Dr. Gwinn has authored more than 150 peer-reviewed scientific articles including on the discovery of the alpha-synuclein triplication as causal for familial Parkinson’s disease, and delineation of differing phenotypes of neurodegenerative disease depending on ethnicity.

Her experience as an FDA Medical Reviewer, academic researcher, NIH Program Director, and Neurologist has given her a broad skill set in basic, clinical, and translational research.
