Dear ASHHRA Colleagues, A goodly morning to everyone as we enter the third quarter of 2020, the Year of COVID-19. As I write this, my home state of South Carolina is setting records every day for increases in COVID-19 cases. We have “good” company in Florida, Texas, Arizona, California and other states. Thankfully, health care workers lead the way on wearing masks and will continue to do so. Thank you for masking up!

New York Life and Cigna, through their foundations, created The Brave of Heart Fund, dedicated to providing health care workers and their families with peace of mind by offering financial support to the families of health care workers who lose their lives to COVID-19, and Cigna will provide free emotional wellness resources to grieving families.

Healthcare Dive The health care sector added 358,000 jobs throughout the last two weeks of May and the first two weeks of June, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics monthly jobs report. Similar to last month's report, dentists and physician's offices saw notable gains: 190,000 and 80,000 jobs added, respectively. Hospitals added about 7,000 jobs, the first gain since March.

COVID-19 Updates
Health Affairs Approximately 30 percent of general acute care hospitals in the US are rural hospitals, serving sixty million people. The June 2020 issue of Health Affairs journal includes the article, “Varying Trends In The Financial Viability Of US Rural Hospitals, 2011–17,” by Ge Bai and colleagues, and here, the authors to put their work in the context of the current coronavirus crisis.
