There are numerous awards and celebrations throughout October. To mention a few, I'd like to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Case Management Week, ER Nurses Week, Healthcare Supply Chain Week, Pharmacy Week, Quality/Infection Control Week, Facilities Week, Nutritional Services Week, Compliance Week, and Sterile Processing Revenue Cycle Week. I want to deliver flowers to our employees while they are here because acknowledging and celebrating the Healthcare Heroes is very vital in our profession.

This webinar offers insights about criteria to apply when evaluating a certification credential. Certainly, healthcare providers understand how respected credentials enhance professional credibility and display them after their names. While designations like MD and RN are very familiar, the value becomes less clear when there are multiple credentials for essentially the same role. What do those letters in a credential signify? Hiring or managing allied health professionals has a direct impact on patient care. However, not all certifications are created according to the same rigorous standards.

Integrate career pathways in some of healthcare’s hardest-to-fill support roles through Healthcare Industry-Recognized Apprenticeship Programs (IRAPs). If your organization struggles with recruitment or retention, integrating this open-source model into your facility, for free, should be a top priority. Right now, the first 20 Early Adopters of the IRAPs will be eligible for up to $10,000 in support per location as we launch the programs nationwide. These funds can be used at your discretion to administer, incentivize, integrate or promote the program to hire and/or grow the careers of candidates for your hard-to-fill roles.

America simply cannot be strong without its hospitals being strong. In turn, hospitals and health systems meet their mission and serve patients best when they are equipped with a strong, healthy and resilient workforce. That resilience has been severely tested in recent years, as the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated existing strains on our health care workforce. The AHA is committed to helping hospitals and health systems support their people today, prepare them for tomorrow and build a pathway for the future.
