Dear ASHHRA Colleagues,
Welcome to 2020 and the start of a new decade. I am honored to serve as your ASHHRA President as we kick off the new decade and look forward to a banner year. As always, we face challenges as the new year/decade rolls in. As health care HR professionals, we need to prepare for, and creatively deal with, those challenges.

ASHHRA is excited to announce its new board members for 2020. Willis Tisdale, director of human resources for Shriners Hospitals for Children, now serves as president; and Carl McDonald, senior HR director for Cleveland Clinic, serves as vice president. New to the board is Linda Thompson, senior vice president of human resources and service excellence for New England Baptist Hospital.

 A U.S.-led airstrike in Iraq Jan. 3, eliminated Qassem Soleimani, the head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)-Quds Force, a U.S.-designated Foreign Terrorist Organization. Although the U.S. government has not identified a specific threat from Iran targeting U.S. health care, the public has been asked to remain vigilant for physical and cyberbased suspicious activity.

Members of the Aligning for Health coalition, whose members include the AHA, yesterday along with other organizations urged leaders of the House Energy and Commerce Committee to hold a hearing on the Social Determinants Accelerator Act (H.R. 4004) and other opportunities to address the social determinants of health.
