Creating a healthy community calls for focusing on diversity, inclusion and health equity, all of which are priorities at Navicent Health in Macon, Ga. Since committing to the AHA #123forEquity pledge in 2015, the health system has taken measurable steps to minimize health care disparities and ensure quality care for all patients. Last month, Navicent received the 2018 Equity of Care Award at the AHA Leadership Summit. 

Many employers offer a higher salary in hopes of keeping their top talent—a recent study by Robert Half reported that 58 percent of managers have made counteroffers to employees wanting to leave the company. But the study also found that this solution is only temporary, and these employees end up leaving anyway.

Financial executives' roles are expanding in organizations, especially in HR and IT, according to a new Robert Half survey. When asked in what areas their roles have grown the most over the past three years, finance executives said HR (39 percent), IT (28 percent) and operations (21 percent). 

Why, do so many executives continue to regard human resources as a back-end support service responsible for administering the mundane functions of compensation and benefits, payroll, training, and onboarding? Could it be that many HR leaders haven't demonstrated an intimate understanding of the business or an ability to focus their teams on spearheading initiatives that create tremendous value for the enterprise? It's time for this to change.

Variability in end-of-life expenditures is complicated, influenced by many factors. Patient preference is only one such factor and rarely the most impactful one. A new study found that physicians’ beliefs, knowledge, and comfort level with end-of-life care practices play a much more significant role in end-of-life spending than patients’ desires.
