ASHHRA eNews Pulse: May 2018

UPMC Health Plan

Message from the President
Dear ASHHRA Colleagues,

Over the past several months, we have celebrated a lot. Health Care HR Week in March and now National Hospital and Nurses Week this week. As I think about this year’s conference theme, "Meeting the Challenge and Making a Difference," celebrating our successes is always important. We now have less than 130 days until our conference and I hope you have had a chance to register. As health care HR professionals, it’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day parts of our job and not take the time for personal growth.

This year’s conference is in Pittsburgh and what a great place to be in September! Not only have we have lined up some incredible speakers, you will also have lots of opportunities to receive credits for your CHHR or other certifications. I encourage to visit the 2018 conference site to see some of the great events we have scheduled for our conference.

Finally, I would like to thank the ASHHRA Board and staff for all the great work they do for us as members of ASHHRA. It’s through their hard work that we are able to put on all the educational events that we do. The next time you see one of our staff or Board Members, please take a moment to thank them.

Sincerely,
Jamie Parsons, CHHR, SPHR, FACHE, SHRM-SCP
ASHHRA President, 2018

During Nurse's Week, it's important not just to look back on the progress we've made throughout history, but also to give credit to the professionals who are brilliantly molding the health care profession today. Workplace violence is not merely the events that make the news; it is also the everyday occurrences, such as verbal abuse. The focus of this alert is to help your organization recognize and acknowledge workplace violence directed against health care workers from patients and visitors, better prepare staff to handle violence, and more effectively address the aftermath.
