Message from the President
Dear ASHHRA Colleagues,

Hopefully most of you had the opportunity to celebrate national Health Care Human Resources Week last month. It’s important to take time out of our busy schedules and celebrate all the great things we as HR professionals do each year. I also would like to remind everyone not to forget it’s never too early to register for this year’s conference. Click here to register and visit the conference website. This year's conference will be held from September 15 - 18, in Pittsburgh, and we have a great lineup of speakers and events, as well as business partners attending. I would also like to thank our generous sponsors for their continued support of the annual conference and our membership. They can be found at the bottom of each page of the conference website.

As an HR professional, you have multiple resources you can tap into for help in solving some of those daily HR questions. Your ASHHRA membership gives you full access to all the valuable resources offered by ASHHRA. One of those resources is the ASHHRA Learning Portal. The portal gives you on-demand educational offerings in areas such as CHHR study courses, FMLA and ADA help, archived webinars addressing employee turnover and more. To access the learning  portal, visit ASHHRA.org/Learning

Finally, in the next several weeks, you will receive an email announcing the proposed slate of Board Member positions for 2019. I would like to take this opportunity and thank all the dedicated volunteers we have in ASHHRA. It’s only with the help of volunteers that we can continue to make ASHHRA an excellent resource for health care HR professionals such as yourself. Click here to see just a few of the volunteers that help make ASHHRA the great professional organization that it is.

Sincerely,
Jamie Parsons, CHHR, SPHR, FACHE, SHRM-SCP
ASHHRA President, 2018

"High utilizers" of the emergency department (ED) and the hospital constitute a small percentage of the population who use a disproportionately high percentage of acute care services. Few models exist to improve care for high utilizers, and fewer yet have been replicated across a variety of settings and populations — as would be needed to support large-scale delivery system transformation.

A JPMorgan Chase analysis of more than 1 million tax refunds points to increased spending on deferred health care services, especially among those who file early. Americans with larger federal tax refunds filed earlier and increased their spending on health care services they had been putting off.
