Dear ASHHRA Colleagues,

Happy National Nurses Week and National Hospital Week! Last month, it was wonderful to see everyone in Phoenix — in person — for ASHHRA22. For our ASHHRA board and staff, having an in-person conference was a major accomplishment. I know I was able to Connect, Innovate and Transform, and I hope that everyone else’s experience was just as inspiring.

We had enlightening and in-depth sessions on topics ranging from attracting and retaining talent in healthcare to reengaging employees in the aftermath of a pandemic. From the positive feedback to the smiles and the ability to network in person, the conference exceeded all of my expectations, but hearing Jen Arnold's and Bill Klein's heartfelt stories taught me how to Think Big.

The Social Event at The Duce was definitely loose. Our HR professionals had a great time and danced the night away. The following day, EEOC Commissioner Keith Sonderling provided excellent information on current cases, new initiatives and the EEOC's future. Scott Bloom concluded the conference with a trip through time filled with music, acting and plenty of laughter. If you were not able to join us this year, make plans to join us next year at ASHHRA23, April 23-26 in what is known as “the Queen City” — Charlotte, North Carolina. Mark your calendars now!

I'd like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the ASHHRA board, committee members, staff, business partners and sponsors for their ongoing commitment and support. I can't wait to see everyone in Charlotte!

Carl McDonald, MSHRM, PHR, SHRM-CP
ASHHRA President
