Dear ASHHRA Colleagues,

Welcome to winter! Most ASHHRA members are now in full-blown cold winter and the nasty weather it sometimes brings. We also have holidays galore for December and January, though I expect many of the celebrations will be subdued as COVID-19 rears its ugly head again. Help is on the way, and hopefully by the time you read this, some health care providers will be on the cusp of receiving the COVID vaccine. Things are looking up and maybe we will be back to normal in late spring, so hang in there and get your vaccine.

I want to thank you for allowing me to serve as ASHHRA President for 2020. It was not as I imagined, but c’est la vie. The ASHHRA staff and board did a wonderful job with our first virtual conference and helped guide ASHHRA through some tough times. Other organizations were not as lucky.

This is my last message to all of you, as Carl McDonald, Senior HR Director of Cleveland Clinic in Weston, Florida, takes the reigns as ASHHRA President for 2021 starting in January. The ASHHRA board will say farewell to Past President Sara Fredrickson as she transitions off of the board. To say that her knowledge and insight will be missed is a significant understatement. I also want to thank Catherine Carruth and the entire ASHHRA staff for the miracles they worked in 2020 to make our virtual conference wildly successful and to help keep ASHHRA onthe right path during the pandemic.

I wish you all a safe and happy holiday season, as you mask up and take care of each other. I hope to see you at an ASHHRA event once we put the brakes on the pandemic. I am looking forward to seeing 1,000 of my closest friends at an ASHHRA conference in 2021.
