Greetings, ASHHRA!

A few months ago I mentioned an incredible partnership that ASHHRA was creating to impact the Workplace Violence challenges we are experiencing in healthcare. I am so excited to announce that we are launching our first strategy, and YOU have an opportunity to get involved and make an impact! Here are the details:

ASHHRA and the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Collaborate on Industry-Leading Tools and Resources – Call for SMEs

ASHHRA is pleased to announce a collaboration with the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS), the nation’s only membership organization for security, safety, emergency management and law enforcement in healthcare. This joint effort aims to develop tools, resources and best practices for Human Resources and Security professionals.

ASHHRA is seeking volunteers to contribute to the development of education/tools/resources to be used in healthcare organizations to decrease workplace violence and enhance our collective response between HR and Safety & Security Professionals.

HR leaders who have expertise in Workplace Violence, Terminated Employees, Investigations, Hiring Practices, Drug Diversion and/or Threat Assessments are encouraged to apply. Training, presenting and writing experience is preferred. Most of the work for this project will be completed in the July-December 2023 timeframe.

For information and the application process, please complete the online volunteer application https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/V7S3XMZ.

Submissions are due July 21, 2023, by noon CT.

I ask each of you to consider if this is a gift you are willing and able to share with your professional colleagues to truly make a difference in the devastating impact workplace violence is having in the organizations we serve. Our deliverables will be practical and useful ways for HR and Security & Safety professionals to best partner during the challenging situations.

We know that healthcare HR, this special niche we have chosen, is purpose-driven work. We’re privileged to serve our teammates and communities. Increasingly, this gives us opportunities to lean in and make a difference.

Our ASHHRA association continues to focus on your needs and how to best partner and support each of you in the important work you do every day. If you have ideas or suggestions, please reach out to me or to any member of the ASHHRA Board or staff to ensure your voice is heard.

We know you all have choices in membership associations, thank you for choosing ASHHRA. We are collectively a special group and I am so grateful for each of you and excited to see what we can continue to do together!

In gratitude,

Becky Rauen, MA, CHHR, SHRM-SCP
2023 ASHHRA Board President
