April 24, 2024 -- A Look Back at ASHHRA24

With the end of ASHHRA24 comes your time to act as a change agent. Here are four ideas you can implement to maximize your conference experience:
1. Access learning session slides. Available on the mobile app until June 30, you can use these as road maps to create an action plan, and download the slides to the sessions you couldn’t attend. Access to the app will close after June 30. If you have trouble accessing the app, please contact kenna.mcdowell@wearemci.com.
2. Create an action plan. After reviewing notes and the available slides, create a plan that puts your conference takeaways into action. Start with one idea, or decide to make one change, then make it happen. After that small victory, you’ll be more motivated to continue down the path to change.
3. Follow up with those you met. Connect on LinkedIn, send an encouraging email, drop a line to say hello, say "thank you" to someone — nurture the relationships that you created.
4. Stay connected! Keep sharing ideas and making connections through ASHHRA. Continue the conversation on the ASHHRA Exchange to stay connected, and challenge each other to connect, innovate and transform.

The 2024 Conference Survey was emailed to attendees on April 22. Attendance codes for CHHR, FACHE fellowship hours, SHRM and HRCI will be available on the last page of the survey. Your feedback is critical as we plan future ASHHRA conferences including ASHHRA25 in Albuquerque, April 6-8, 2025.
If you didn't receive the survey, please check your junk/spam folder or contact ASHHRA@ashhra.org. We'd appreciate your feedback by next Friday, May 3.

New This Year: Private Photo Delivery

April 16, 2024 -- Make the Most of ASHHRA24

Get your photos delivered right to you in your own private gallery! The photographer will be taking photos throughout the conference and you just might be in them! If you’d like to receive photos captured of YOU, simply scan the QR code to sign up.
How it works:
1. To opt-in, scan the QR for a VERY brief registration page. Fill in your name and desired delivery method (text, email or Whatsapp). You will only do this once.
2. The system will prompt you too upload or take a selfie (we recommend you TAKE a selfie). The system will process this and issue the following message: “You’re All Set! You will be notified when you are spotted in any photos.”
3. The system then delivers images of you via text/email/Whatsapp each time new images are uploaded into your gallery (up to three times a day).

5 Things You Need to Know for Monday in the Exhibit Hall

1. Monday Exhibit Hall hours will be 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Be sure to join us for lunch in the Exhibit Hall!

2. You won't want to miss Monday's Exhibit Hall Happy Hour: Cows, Cocktails and Cowboy Hats from 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.! Connect with exhibitors, sponsors and colleagues over cocktails, and enjoy a photo opportunity with some adorable mini-Highland cows and decorate your own cowboy hat!

Dr. Alisahah Jackson is a strong advocate for health equity, believing everyone should be able to achieve great health, no matter what they look like, how much money they make, or where they come from. Dr. Jackson's work runs the gamut from developing health equity plans for underserved communities to building solutions to address substance abuse, and support behavioral health and maternity care. In this engaging session, she will share the ways that social drivers impact health equity, identify various strategies to address health disparities, and focus on how community engagement can serve as an accelerator for health justice. This session is sure to make some uncomfortable, but ultimately will inspire and motivate you to, as Arthur Ashe said, “Start where you are, use what you have, and do what you can.”

With the end of ASHHRA22 comes your time to act as a change agent. Here are four ideas you can implement to maximize your conference experience:
1. Access learning session slides. Available on the mobile app, you can use these as road maps to create an action plan, and download the slides to the sessions you couldn’t attend.
2. Create an action plan. After reviewing notes and the available slides, create a plan that puts your conference takeaways into action. Start with one idea, or decide to make one change, then make it happen. After that small victory, you’ll be more motivated to continue down the path to change.
3. Follow up with those you met. Connect on LinkedIn, send an encouraging email, drop a line to say hello, say "thank you" to someone — nurture the relationships that you created.
4. Stay connected! Keep sharing ideas and making connections through ASHHRA. If you’re a member, continue the conversation on the ASHHRA Exchange. Whatever platform you use to stay connected, challenge each other to connect, innovate and transform.

Commissioner Keith E. Sonderling will discuss the EEOC’s mission to prevent and remedy unlawful employment discrimination and advance equal opportunity for all in the workplace. Learn how the EEOC does so by enforcing federal laws prohibiting discrimination against employees and job applicants based on the person’s race, age, sex, national origin, color, religion, disability or genetic information. The laws apply to all types of work situations, including hiring, firing, promotions, harassment, training, wages and benefits. The EEOC investigates and litigates discrimination charges against employers and governments. The EEOC also prevents discrimination through providing education, outreach and technical assistance programs.

Erin Brockovich: The Power of One

April 27, 2021 -- A Look Back

In her opening keynote, Erin Brockovich shared some of the ideas, stories and steps that she has learned along the path of 30-plus years of advocacy, with the hope that ASHHRA21 attendees might tuck them away until the time that they're needed. Throughout her talk, Brockovich emphasized the power of one, yet interconnectedness of all of us, with each other and with the environment. She also shared two of her key heuristics:
• The 5 Ls: Logic, Leverage, Loyalty, Leadership, Love
• RAM: Realization, Assessment, Motivation

"Even in trying times, I know that we will find our way back again. Remember, YOU have the ability to muster up everything you need. You, and we, will make your way back," shared Brockovich. "I get very excited about the hope and inspiration that I know live inside every one of you. I encourage you to reconnect with the environment, so you can reconnect with yourself."

After uncovering a 30-year long history of poisoning the groundwater in Hinkley, Calif. by PG&E, Brockovich dug in and didn’t give up until she had exposed the truth — and had gotten justice for its victims. She truly is proof that one person can make a difference, and she believes that everyone, in their own way, can do the same as a Power of One.

A Look Back at ASHHRA19

With the end of ASHHRA19 comes your time to act as a change agent. Here are four ideas you can implement to maximize your conference experience:
1. Access learning session slides. Available on the mobile app, you can use these as road maps to create an action plan, and download the slides to the sessions you couldn’t attend.
2. Create an action plan. After reviewing notes and the available slides, create a plan that puts your conference takeaways into action. Start with one idea, or decide to make one change, then make it happen. After that small victory, you’ll be more motivated to continue down the path to change.
3. Follow up with those you met. Connect on LinkedIn, send an encouraging email, drop a line to say hello, say ‘thank you’ to someone — nurture the relationships that you created.
4. Stay connected! Keep sharing ideas and making connections through the conference mobile app. If you’re a member, continue the conversation on the ASHHRA Exchange. Whatever platform you use to stay connected, challenge each other to innovate and transform.

The second day of learning and innovating begins with a message from Britt Berrett, the former president of Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas and executive vice president of Texas Health Resources. He is an Executive Coach with MEDI and has more than 25 years of experience as a hospital president and CEO. This keynote is based on his co-authored book, Patients Come Second – Leading Change by Changing How You Lead, which has become a New York Times, USA Today and WSJ Best Seller. He will cover 10 key points with examples and humorous stories that will inspire ASHHRA19 attendees to lead differently.

Thought Leader Forum: "Preparing the Health Care Workforce for AI"

Artificial Intelligence (AI) will affect the health care workforce in various ways — a fact many HR professionals find concerning. Attend this crucial session (4:00-5:30 p.m., Randolph1AB) where thought leaders will discuss and strategize how to train and prepare the health care workforce to meet that challenge. As HR professionals, you can begin tailoring positions that align with AI instead of being replaced by AI.
