For the third year, the ASHHRA Annual Conference & Exposition offered a day of Preconference Workshops on Saturday. Attendees took part in all-day immersion tracks specifically created to take a deep dive into enhancing targeted skills, increasing their knowledge base, and acquiring implementable strategies.
The purposely intimate workshops focused on four critical areas: Legislative and Labor, Accreditation and Compliance, Leadership and Development Workshop, Know Your Field: Debrief of Health Care Series.
These workshops were led by some of the field’s most sought-after speakers, health care HR leaders, and strategic partners, giving participants the opportunity to ask questions and strategize with their colleagues and speakers during these in-depth learning opportunities.

Each year at the ASHHRA Annual Conference & Exposition, we acknowledge some of the best in the profession through the prestigious Gary Willis Leadership Award (GWLA), created in memory of Gary Willis, an ASHHRA board member who passed away in 2010 after a battle with cancer. This award — co-sponsored by ASHHRA and the American Hospital Association — recognizes mid-level managers and directors who have made outstanding leadership and operations contributions to their organization. This year's award was presented to Gretchen Long, director of human resources at Shriners Hospital for Children, and Jean Martaniuk, director of human resources at Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center.
HealthcareSource also presented the annual New-to-the-Profession Annual Conference Grant to three recipients, who received complimentary registration, travel and lodging to the conference: Jessica Ritchie, director of human resources, Juniper Health; Rebecka Leahy, John Muir Medical Center, Walnut Creek; and Erika Harrell, organizational development performance & e-learning specialist, Swedish American Health System.
