Most workplaces still don't treat mental health like they do physical health, but it is increasingly important to break through the myths of depression and anxiety, in order to help businesses help their employees. In this video, HealthMed CEO Tracy Webster introduces Mental Health Guru and Mood Gym, two programs developed to get rid of the stigma around depression and help reduce the cost of employee depression in the workplace.

2:15 – 4:30 p.m., Room 609 Workforce challenges abound in health care, from provider shortages, shifting demographics, the changing delivery system that now requires new skills and knowledge, regulatory constraints, and inadequate access to behavioral health services. In such an environment, it is essential that workforce planning and development be aligned and integrated with a hospital or health systems’ strategic plan. The AHA Committee on Performance Improvement’s 2017 report, The Imperative for Strategic Workforce Planning and Development: Challenges and Opportunities explores these issues. In this session experts from across disciplines will talk about the challenges and opportunities for the current and future workforce.

For the second year, the ASHHRA Annual Conference & Exposition offered a day of Pre-Conference Power Sessions on Saturday. Pre-conference registrants took part in all-day immersion tracks specifically created to take a deep dive into enhancing targeted skills, increasing their knowledge base and acquiring implementable strategies.
The purposely intimate Power Sessions focused on four critical areas: "New" Fundamentals, Leadership Development, Labor and Legislation, and CHHR Certification, with sessions led by some of the industry's most sought-after speakers, health care HR leaders and strategic partners.
Power Session participants had the opportunity to ask questions and strategize with their colleagues and speakers, during these in-depth learning opportunities.

One of the wonderful things about coming together each year at the ASHHRA Annual Conference & Exposition is the opportunity to celebrate the best of our profession. One such celebration is the awarding of the prestigious Gary Willis Leadership Award (GWLA), in memory of Gary Willis, an ASHHRA board member who passed away in 2010 after a battle with cancer. Co-sponsored by ASHHRA and AHA Health Forum, the award recognizes mid-level managers and directors who have made outstanding leadership and operations contributions to their organization, presenting the honorees with a $2,500 scholarship for health care HR education. This year's award was presented to two honorees: Danielle Gilbert, director of human resources for Bon Secours Health System and Donnette Truss, business partner at Mount Sinai Beth Israel.at the Saturday evening Welcome Reception.
Healthcare Source also presented the annual New-to-the-Profession Grant to three recipients, who received $500 as well as complimentary registration, travel and lodging to the Conference: Cindy Christopher, human resoucres director at Siloam Springs Regional Hospital; Teresa Johnson, vice president of human resources at Tri-County Health Care; and Margrette Michael, organizational development manager at Kern Medical.
