Pop up Parks, Design Charrettes and More During the month of October

October the month of the Bicyclist

This month was categorized by events and workshops geared towards re-imagining what a street can be: With the Active Streets Alliance having another successful Active Streets Gainesville, Students for the New Urbanism Sray painting Sharrows along Inner Road, between 13th and 12th, and UF Student Chapter ASLA having a design charrette to redesign University Ave. for a bicycle friendly experience. October will from here on out  be remembered as the "Month of  the Bicyclist."

On October 18th, 2015 SCASLA had the chance to design and install a temporary park for Active Streets Gainesville. We teamed up with Florida Community Design Center and PopGNV to take over two 10x10 spots for the event. Garden Gate Nursery donated a beautiful planting palette. The park was placed in the center of University Avenue right off of 2nd Street. The key piece of the park was a "Wishing Tree" The Sapling-Sweet Gum was used to collect wishes for what would make University Avenue a better place to walk and bike.
