AIA Florida will soon release a new design competition for emerging professionals in Florida. Centered around the incredibly popular PARK(ing) Day, formed by San Francisco-based Rebar, AIA Florida will ask EPs to design "parklets" in their own communities, using a simple, metered parking space.

According to the PARK(ing) Day website, "The mission of PARK(ing) Day is to call attention to the need for more urban open space, to generate critical debate around how public space is created and allocated, and to improve the quality of urban human habitat ... at least until the meter runs out!"

Three winners will be chosen and awarded cash prizes during the 2014 AIA Florida Convention, to help fund the construction of his/her parklet. Look for details from AIA Florida early next week.
