Landscape Architecture Month

HB 9019 by Representative Ingram

This is the annual FLASLA resolution declaring April Landscape Architecture Month in Florida. It was published last week. Chapter representatives met with Representative Ingram this week to thank him for filing the resolution. He presented chapter members with a formal copy of the resolution. We took a photo with Representative Ingram, which is attached.

Public Records

HB 1151 by Representative Hood; SB 1648 by the Senate Governmental Oversight and Accountability Committee

SB 1648 passed the Senate this week. This bill provides that, if any "person" (which as defined would include FLASLA) accepts dues from any government on behalf of its members, that person’s records are subject to certain public records requirements. This would likely require FLASLA to reexamine its policies related to membership and record keeping. HB 1151 passed its first committee this week. However, a Proposed Committee Substitute (PCS) was adopted which does not contain the problematic dues provision. HB 1151 has two committees remaining.

Other Legislation

SR 382 by Dean; HR 9041 by Representative Porter

These resolutions declare April Springs Protection Awareness Month. HB 9041 was adopted last week. SR 382 was adopted this week.

SB 692 by Senator Stargel; HB 713 by Representative Ray

These bills revise the licensure requirements for Engineers, including increased CLE and other items. The bills do not contain any problematic language but are being monitored closely. SB 692 passed its last committee this week and is on the Senate calendar on second reading. HB 713 is on the House calendar on second reading.
