Happy New Year FLASLA Members! I hope you are enjoying your monthly newsletter as a benefit of your membership. Over the last year, this forum has been designed to become the clearinghouse for as much information as possible as it relates to the profession in our State. With the rise of e-blasts, and the vast and diverse amount of information needed to be delivered to members, I think many found that they were getting bombarded by copious and disjointed emails infiltrating their inbox. To filter, open and read all the different messages coming in from leadership was a job on its own. This newsletter has consolidated that information, so your State-level ASLA articles can be found in one convenient place.

Some of the material will be a monthly fixture, including my reports on member benefits, a Trustee report outlining what is happening at ASLA on the national level, and government affairs issues. We also hope to include Section highlights and showcase our FLASLA award winning projects. In this month's issue, we will be highlighting last year's Stresau Award Winner, the Bok Tower Gardens.

In addition to these ongoing articles, we hope to hear from you, the membership! No one knows more about the issues and important information that affects our members more than you. Is there a local issue affecting your business? A significant project that should be highlighted? Do you know of any interesting apps or technological advances you are benefiting from? If you are a student member, what issues are you facing as you prepare to head into the workforce? Needless to say we want to hear form you!

FLASLA Past-President Mike Miller should be commended for his work on the creation and ongoing development of this newsletter. His dedication to the project got it off the ground and he continues to manage its improvements. In order to support those improvements we need to provide the most relevant articles, and your input is imperative to deliver the message. Please forward any ideas, articles or events that you feel should be showcased to Mike Miller at pastpresident@flasla.org or to our FLASLA Director of Communications Jon Shiver at jon@flasla.org.

Enjoy the issue, and I hope you all have a great start to 2014.

Jeff Brophy, ASLA
FLASLA President
