Denbury Inc. recently signed a deal with a landowner in southwest Louisiana for the future development and operation of a dedicated CO2 sequestration site. Denbury estimates that the 31,000-acre position, located in the Allen, Beauregard and Vernon parishes, has the potential to store up to 250 million metric tons of CO2.

Construction backlog in November reached its highest level since the second quarter of 2019, according to Associated Builders and Contractors, marking a turn from last month’s backlog report when October's numbers showed the largest monthly decline since July 2020 in the commercial and institutional category.

Wintershall Dea has submitted a plan for development and operation to Norway’s Ministry of Petroleum and Energy for the Dvalin North Field in the Norwegian Sea, which is said to have been the country’s largest discovery in 2021 with reserves estimated at about 84 MMboe.

The Royal Navy has ordered what it's calling the largest, most complex unmanned submarine operated by a European navy in a deal aimed at protecting undersea cables and pipelines. The contract, which was secured by M Subs, calls for a 12-meters-long submarine expected to be delivered within two years.

On Wednesday, Dec. 14, CGG announced an agreement with Carbon Transition to reprocess the Utsira ocean bottom node seismic survey in the Norwegian North Sea. the reprocessing, which will cover approximately 2,000 square kilometers, will apply CGG’s latest advances in OBN processing and imaging technology, including time-lag full-waveform inversion.

NEW PRODUCTS AND TECHNOLOGY
Subsea Innovation has successfully completed the design, build and in-house testing of a Bellmouth Repair Clamp that makes use of a unique clamping design. The clamp was produced for offshore installer TechnipFMC and was installed on an offshore wind farm in fourth quarter 2022.

The subsea kite turbine is a unique concept created by developer Minesto to generate electricity in tidal streams and ocean currents using the principle of flying a stunt kite in the wind. In support of multiple kite installations, Faroes-based SJH Commercial Diving will deploy their Seaeye Falcon underwater robot for inspecting power-cable runs along the seabed to the shore and inspecting and cleaning foundation points.

California held an auction last week for five sites off its coast that could house the first floating wind turbines in the United States. While there are a few demonstration projects around the world for wind turbines that float while tethered to the sea floor, more governments have been setting goals for installations, with larger projects entering the planning and permitting stages.
