Usually, the first weekend of April is when abalone divers pack up their wetsuits and fins and head off to campsites along the Sonoma and Mendocino coast. However, this year’s recreational abalone season is closed due to a population on the brink of collapse, so the diving community has rechanneled its efforts in a seemingly mad scheme to save the abalone, involving underwater vacuums, hookahs and purple sea urchins.

MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
For several years DESCO has been offering a class to train employees of diving contractors in the repair and maintenance of the DESCO Air Hat. The class is designed to satisfy the ADCI requirement for factory trained personnel servicing member company equipment, when so recommended by the life support equipment manufacturer. ADCI is in the process of auditing all member companies and consequently the demand for training sessions is increasing.

The Air Hat Maintenance Certification class is held in our factory, and takes approximately four hours. Students are required to supply an Air Hat to inspect, and repair if necessary. In servicing a helmet under supervision by DESCO staff, the student gets a fuller understanding of the process and procedures. Upon completion the student will receive a certificate and a copy of the Air Hat Service Manual. The helmets inspected during the training will receive a DESCO Inspection Report.

Effective immediately DESCO will charge a $300.00 class fee. The class size is limited to two students. The only additional cost will be for any replacement parts used to repair the helmet.

The Air Hat maintenance certification will be valid for five years.

We require a minimum two weeks advanced notice to schedule a class.

DESCO recommends that all air hats be inspected annually by a DESCO certified technician. More frequent inspection may be required based on extreme use of the Air Hat or special hazardous environment use.

Pre-dive and post dive inspections should conform to best industry practices. All DESCO technical guides are available for download at:

NEW PRODUCTS AND TECHNOLOGY
LinkQuest has a long-standing working relationship with Triton Submarines LLC, located in Vero Beach, Florida, a manufacturer of state-of-the-art personal luxury submarines for superyacht owners who want to explore the world beneath the waves. LinkQuest has delivered a number of TrackLink 1500 USBL tracking systems with integrated acoustic modem function to Triton Submarines over the past few years. Those TrackLink systems not only allow for surface ship-based personnel to track the positions of the manned submersibles but also allow for the crew inside the submersible to communicate with the ship-based personnel through the integrated acoustic communication function. The acoustic communication data are integrated and piggybacked with the USBL acoustic tracking signals. By doing so, acoustic interference is avoided and the user?s experience is enhanced.
