New On ADCI-TV

Stay current with what's happening in your industry by watching ADCI's video updates.

In this episode, we discuss the auditing process that is requisite of all general members of the Association of Diving Contractors International (or ADCI), and explain the benefits of hiring fully vetted contractors to perform underwater operations.

Pre-planned preventative maintenance programs work to ensure the safety of personnel and assist in mitigating costs associated with equipment failure. This episode reinforces the importance of such programs and discusses the benefits associated with them.

The Association of Diving Contractors International and the MTS ROV Committee have done it again! Underwater Intervention 2014 was a huge success. This year's show brought together stakeholders in the subsea industry for three days of education and networking. Check out the highlights in this episode.

This episode breaks down the steps that must be taken before conducting underwater operations. Job planning and Job Hazard Analyses are invaluable tools when assessing and mitigating risk and ensuring adherence to industry practices and regulations. ADCI contractors are committed to best industry practice, quality of work and the safety of their personnel over profit. This commitment reduces the risk of incident, injury and liability to a project's stakeholders.

The ADCI has implemented an industry-wide initiative to educate operators in the offshore and inland sectors, both internationally and domestically, on what is at stake when contracting for underwater services. In this episode, we tackle the topic of contractor selection and discuss what an operator should be aware of when looking to hire a diving contractor.

The Importance of Client Education
Episode One: Leadership

We begin our seven part series on client education with a conversation on the role of leadership and its part in mitigating risk for both the diving contractor and the client.

Oil is one of the most promising produce offered by Mother Nature. It has become a global necessity that allows us to perform thousands of tasks and operate a variety of machineries. It is the blood flowing through numerous industrial veins. Drilling this precious fluid takes a lot of effort and huge manpower from managing, engineering, diving, refining, transporting and other careers in the energy industry.

Tugs, pollution response gear, specialty pumping gear, and a 12-strong T&T-Cabras Marine team was dispatched to manage the salvage operation. What began as a typical grounding response quickly turned into anything but when the initial dive survey turned up a World War II-era torpedo and other unexploded ordnance around the vessel. The salvage operations were immediately suspended and the vessel crew was evacuated until an explosives ordinance disposal (EOD) team could be activated to assess the risk.

During decompression, the helium is unable to escape from the waterproof case quickly enough, creating a pressure differential that could force the crystal out of the watch case. Rolex engineers created a gas escape valve fitted with a spring: it opens when the difference in pressure between the inside and outside of the watch reaches 3 to 5 bars, allowing the helium to escape, without compromising the waterproofness of the watch.
