When a unit at Salt River Project's 129-MW Horse Mesa project suffered a catastrophic failure, a creative option was needed to repair the unit, whose intake structure is 160 feet below the lake surface. The solution chosen, called "saturation diving," involved using special equipment to replicate living at underwater pressures during the task.

Ocean Week concludes this weekend with festivities at several locations across the beaches. The day-long Ocean Fest at Capt. Anderson’s Marina supplies the grand finale.
The week was established to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the SeaLab-1 experimental underwater laboratory, but it has also served to celebrate water recreation and conservation activities, as well as to raise funds to maintain the Man in the Sea Museum.

The Crowley Maritime Corp. subsidiary TITAN Salvage and partner Micoperi have confirmed that the Costa Concordia – the Concordia class cruise ship that wrecked along shores of Giglio Island, Italy, in January 2012 – has been refloated and has begun its final voyage to an assigned berth in Port of Genoa Voltri, Italy, some 200 miles away. The project is the largest and one of the most technically complex maritime salvage jobs ever completed.

Despite the ongoing hostilities in Libya, the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) has once again exempted some Filipinos from the deployment ban in the conflict-torn state.

Atlantic Coast Marine Group, Inc. successfully responds to World War II era motor tanker leaking massive cargo of oil into the Atlantic Ocean's waters.

The release of a new Marcellus Shale Coalition (MSC) annual workforce survey shows that development of shale has – to the surprise of few – been a boon to the state. Pennsylvania’s unemployment is the lowest that it has been since 2008, and hiring in 2014 could send it even lower. The UN's International Seabed Authority (ISA) has opened up massive new regions of the ocean floor for mining companies to search for and dig up valuable minerals including copper, gold and manganese by issuing seven new exploration licences.

Russia’s top oil producer Rosneft and North Atlantic Drilling have entered into a drilling agreement worth up to $4.25 billion, in line with a previous agreement and despite Western sanctions over Moscow’s role in Ukraine. Production is underway on Valeport's UV-SVP (Underwater Vehicle - Sound Velocity Profiler), which is a small and compact direct reading package aimed primarily at AUV and ROV users.
