Google is building a new subsea cable to shuttle your megabits between between the eastern US, Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina. The fiber optic line, called Firmina after a Brazilian abolitionist, is due to start operations in 2023.
 
Canadian Natural Resources, Cenovus Energy, Imperial, MEG Energy and Suncor Energy formally announced the Oil Sands Pathways to Net Zero initiative.
 
Equinor has contracted Subsea Integration Alliance to provide the subsea equipment network for the Bacalhau development offshore Brazil.

NEW PRODUCTS AND TECHNOLOGY
Oil and gas company Neptune Energy has completed a virtual reality pilot on its Gjøa platform in the Norwegian North Sea, enabling teams to make highly realistic virtual visits to the facility. 
 
The world's largest swimming pool designed for astronaut training and development of subsea robots will be built in the U.K. near the Cornwall Airport Newquay, which expects to serve as a spaceport for Virgin Orbit launches beginning next year. 
 
Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) and the Metals Company unveiled designs for seafloor mineral collector robots, carbon-neutral vessels, and waste-free metals processing and recycling plants that will enable a circular supply chain for battery metals.

So, you’re ready to get in the water for that project that’s been months in the making. Everything is in place and you and your dive crew are ready to get the job done. You do a last communications check to make sure everything worked like it did in the dive locker. Then you get that sinking feeling when you can’t hear the dive supervisor on the topside radio, or they can hear you but you hear nothing. The dive is off.
