INTERNATIONAL NEWS
Bibby Offshore, subsea services provider to the oil and gas industry, has successfully completed a multi-million pound contract with Maersk Oil UK, providing both subsea structure and pipeline inspection support in the UKCS.

Subsea UK's latest business activity review reveals that the industry is generating annual revenues of £7.5billion, compared to £8.9billion in 2014. The body which represents the country's subsea industry also revealed that, despite the downturn in oil and gas, the subsea sector still supports around 45,000 jobs in the UK. This compares to around 53,000 three years ago.

Sometimes a job is too dirty, dangerous or downright impossible for a human to tackle. That’s often when engineers build a machine to take on the task. Finalists at this year’s Broadcom MASTERS competition were presented with just such a challenge. They had to design and build a small remotely-operated vehicle (ROV) that could dive to a river bottom and bring back a sample of the sediment. Adding to the challenge, they had only a few short hours to do it.

NEW PRODUCTS AND TECHNOLOGY
Algar Telecom (Brazil), Angola Cables (Angola), Antel (Uruguay), Google and TE SubCom, a TE Connectivity Ltd. company (NYSE: TEL) and an industry pioneer in undersea communications technology, today announced that the Monet Cable System ("Monet") has reached Ready for Service status. Commercial traffic should be able to commence shortly. This milestone means that the 10,556km cable that connects Florida to Brazil is complete and prepared to provide more than 64 Tbps of capacity to users.

UUV Aquabotix Ltd recently introduced its second-generation hybrid underwater vehicle, the Integra AUV/ROV (autonomous underwater vehicle/remotely operated vehicle). Single-person deployable, portable and lithium ion battery-powered, the Integra AUV/ROV allows users to conduct multiple underwater missions, while providing a cost-efficient alternative to deploying separate AUVs and ROVs for individualized tasks.
