Global subsea excavation specialist James Fisher Subsea Excavation (JFSE) is embarking on its 80th decommissioning/salvage job in the Gulf of Mexico. The platform was destroyed during Hurricane Ike in 2008. The region has been hard-hit by hurricanes in the past decade and the recent extreme weather saw this project delayed for a number of weeks.
 
Well returns specialist, TWMA, has been named as winner of the Northern Star Business Awards' "Commitment to Innovative Use of Research & Development" category.
 
UK-based subsea company Rovco has announced plans to take artificial intelligence (AI) to new depths after being selected to join the NVIDIA Inception Programme.

The new website for Underwater Intervention 2018 has officially launched and program planning for the event is underway. UI 2018 is now accepting abstracts for the program through August 1, 2017. Our Track Chairs are diligently working to compile compelling content and dynamic speakers to produce the best educational sessions possible.  If you would like to contribute to the program, please submit your abstract by clicking on the Program Portal button and following the prompts.

UI 2018 is the premier event for the entire underwater operations industry. Through compelling education and thought provoking features, UI 2018 will draw the industry’s leaders from across the country and around the globe to gather for 3 days of networking, thought sharing and relationship building. The Bergen International Diving Seminar 2017 will be held November 15 and 16 at the Clarion Hotel Bergen Airport. The 2017 Topic is Smarter Solutions to Address the Industry's Future. NUI will, on behalf of The Association of Operators for Hyperbaric Lifeboat Reception Facilities repeat the success by arranging the 25th Bergen International Diving Seminar.
 
Recognizing and honoring individuals whose efforts and accomplishments have significantly contributed to commercial diving through a lifetime of dedication.

Nominees do not have to be commercial divers, but can be any individual who has been influential and who has made a significant and recognizable life-long contribution to the commercial diving community.

Inductees will be honored at the Awards Dinner at Underwater Intervention 2018.

Award
This year the ADCI will award 2 Scholarships at $4,000.00 each.

Eligibility
This ADCI Scholarship is open to members of the community of all ADCI voting member companies who are current and in good standing with ADCI, with the exception of officers and/or directors of the ADCI Board of Directors or their immediate families. This award is available for any institution of higher learning after high school including universities, colleges, junior colleges, vocational training schools and trade schools. 

Scholarship recipients will be honored at the Awards Dinner at Underwater Intervention 2018.

INTERNATIONAL NEWS
Potential enablers which will assist subsea supply chain companies to break into the growing wave and tidal energy sectors, and associated technological barriers to their progress, have been identified by NSRI (National Subsea Research Initiative).
 
Montrose Port Authority saw a record 337,000t of shipping activity during August 2017 due to increased commercial vessel activity. The Scottish port authority beat its previous record by an additional 100,000t.
 
Flow assurance and production optimisation specialist, ClearWELL Oilfield Solutions, has appointed a managing director as the company looks to increase its international footprint.
 
NEW PRODUCTS AND TECHNOLOGY
A futuristic flying fish-styled defence system for the Royal Navy, was envisaged by Saab Seaeye systems engineer, Ali Roy. With defence dangers acute at the waterline, she designed an organic shaped concept with the nimble agility to both fly and swim - to avoid detection or pursue a quarry. Joining a team of the UK's brightest and most talented young engineers and scientists Ali was tasked by the Royal Navy, along with the rest of the group, to imagine submarines of the future.
