Proper Electrical Hook-ups and Installations

Recently, it has been reported that electrical hook-ups and installations have not been to code and pose a potential for fire or other electrical hazards onboard vessels.  In one instance, two extension cords were spliced together and duct taped to accommodate the operation of a dive van air conditioner.

Contractors are cautioned against such practices and should reinforce to their field personnel the importance of utilizing electrical supplies and equipment that is fit for purpose.
Proper and adequate electrical equipment, to be sent out on the job, should be thoroughly reviewed and appropriate for the layout of the dive station and location of the dive van.

This Information was sent to further the communication of all industry stakeholders. Safety is the primary concern of the ADCI. Remember: a real-time Job Hazard Analysis is important, but nothing can replace good common sense.

Sincerely,

Phil Newsum
