Does your staff know everything it needs to know about SEMS? Do the operations and safety managers know how to make sure their safety, training, maintenance and other problems align with SEMS? Do the customer representatives or salespeople understand what the customer is asking for on SEMS? When you are audited, does your record keeping system help or hurt you?

The half-day workshop is aimed at helping contractors understand the SEMS rules, as well as how to meet customer expectations. It goes beyond the regulations and into how those regulations are interpreted every day in the offshore environment.

The workshop was developed through analysis of operator SEMS plans and consultation with prominent operators  and contractors; it is based on seminars presented to more than 100 offshore contractors.

It covers:

1. Commonsense explanations of the SEMS rules: SEMS has 13 elements and every oil and gas company interprets them differently.

Topics include:
a. Safe work practices
b. Training, skills and knowledge verifications
c. Mechanical integrity
d. Management of Change, JSAs and operating procedures

2. Lessons learned from the first round of SEMS audits: The regulations say that every operator must complete its first SEMS audit by November 15th. The workshop will look at some of the early trouble spots that are sure to be on the minds of oil and gas customers.

3. What to expect from SEMS II: The new revisions to SEMS will come into play in June of 2014. The workshop will help contractors stay ahead of the changes.

4. Bridging to SEMS: Contractors may not adopt a formal SEMS plan, but they do need to have a safety management approach that allows them to prove to customers how their safety program matches their customer's requirements.
