Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle and House Speaker David Ralston are confirmed speakers for this year's District Days at the Capitol. Lt. Gov. As budgets are being prepared for 2017, county budget officers trying to calculate 2017 salaries for county elected officials and appointed magistrate judges should be aware of some of the increases in salaries that will occur on January 1, 2017.

The Georgia Forestry Commission is reminding counties that changes to the state's timber harvesting notification system are now in effect as a result of HB 199. Passed last year, the bill provides clarity and consistency in procedures counties use in their timber harvesting procedures, including accurate documentation of road use.

The Harvard Kennedy School's Ash Center for Democratic Governance is hosting the Innovations in American Government Awards. Local Government Risk Management Services (LGRMS) will host several training opportunities in February and March. County officials will have the opportunity to attend Safety Coordinator training as well as workshops on personnel liability issues.
