The 2013 Legislative Leadership conference is quickly approaching. The conference will take place Sept. 29-Oct.1 at the Classic Center in Athens-Clarke County, Ga. Officials will have the opportunity to vote on the final 2013-2014 County Platform during the conference business session. The County Platform establishes legislative priorities and outlines policy positions that will guide the ACCG policy staff during the 2014 legislative session.

As Bibb County and Macon prepare to consolidate, they are making strides. Bibb County and Macon were the first U.S. localities to become part of AARP's Network of Age-Friendly Communities. The Network of Age-Friendly Communities is an affiliate of the World Health Organization's Age-Friendly Cities and Communities Program.

The University of Georgia's Carl Vinson Institute of Government is hosting its Georgia Municipal and County Clerks/Finance Officers Education Program. This training program will take place Sept. 8-10 at The University of Georgia's Center for Continuing Education. Registration is now available through Aug. 24, 2013.

Georgia's own DeKalb and Chatham counties were among six winners of the National Association of Counties' (NACo) National County Government Month Award program. This year's theme was Smart Justice: Creating Safer Communities. First and second place winners were selected within each county grouping: metropolitan counties, suburban counties, and rural counties. DeKalb County was selected as the first place winner for metropolitan counties while Chatham County was selected as the second place winner for the suburban counties. Congratulations to both for their efforts in making their counties safer communities!
