January 2013, Vol.7, No.1
The 2013 legislative session is less than one month away. ACCG depends on the County Legislative Coordinator (CLC) network to help distribute information on legislative issues and to provide data to the Association regarding the impact of bills under consideration. ACCG seeks for each county to designate a CLC who will be responsible for monitoring and evaluating legislative updates and alerts from ACCG during the legislative session. CLC’s are also responsible for maintaining contact information on the local legislative delegation and receiving notification when local legislation is introduced for the county. Please see the complete list of CLC's as of December 18, 2012.

ACCG now has a website dedicated solely to informing people about Georgia's property taxes. The website provides a synopsis of general facts about property taxes, the Taxpayer's Bill of Rights, information on property tax assessments, and a section notifying taxpayers which county services these taxes help fund. Also available on the website is brief video that gives a breakdown of Georgia's property tax system.

Chris Rodgers, National Association of Counties (NACo) president, recently announced that "Smart Justice: Creating Safer Communities" will be the theme for April 2013 National County Government Month (NCGM). NACo is currently developing free media resources to assist counties in celebrating NCGM. A popular feature of NCGM is the NACo National County Government Month Award program in which counties that sponsor outstanding programs during the month of April are nationally recognized. ACCG’s and Georgia’s own DeKalb County was honored during 2012’s NCGM "Healthy Counties, Healthy Families."
