For the ninth consecutive year, the ACCG-Interlocal Risk Management Agency (IRMA) Board of Trustees, which oversees the member-owned property and liability insurance pool for the association, recently voted to return a dividend in the amount of $1.75 million.

The local government training program at the Carl Vinson Institute of Government has found a new leader in Murray Weed. Weed has taken the reigns of a program whose courses, many of them offered in partnership with ACCG, attract more than 14,000 registrations a year across Georgia.

As required by HB 122, which was passed during the 2010 General Assembly, all counties, cities and school systems with budgets in excess of $1 million are required to submit their annual budgets (effective on or adopted after January 1, 2011) and audits (completed after January 1, 2011) to the Carl Vinson Institute of Government’s Website.

In compliance with the 2010 Georgia Water Stewardship Act (GWSA), all Georgia water systems serving more than 3,300 in population will be required to conduct annual water system audits and water loss detection starting in 2012.

The West Georgia Winegrape Symposium will take place on Saturday, July 30 at the Carroll County Cooperative Extension AG Center. The planting of the varieties featured in the symposium opens up the whole South to quality wine grapes that can stand the heat, humidity and disease pressures of our area. This initiative greatly expands the winegrape industry in the state, from just being in a few counties, to putting all 159 counties in play as possible producers of this growing agriculture commodity.
