ACCG is now accepting nominations for achievement awards that will be given during the 2011 Annual Meeting. Consider nominating someone you know for the Emory Greene Leadership Award, which is the highest honor given by ACCG, or the new Jerry R. Griffin Leadership Award. In addition, ACCG has added five new Advocacy and Partnership Awards. Nominations are due by March 25, 2011.

Legislation passed in 2010 (SB 346) made significant changes to Georgia’s property tax laws that counties must implement this year. ACCG will host briefings on March 28 in Bibb County and April 4 in Cobb County to help county officials and management staff to better understand the political and budget implications of these changes.

As required by HB 122, the Carl Vinson Institute of Government recently completed development of a website giving local governments the ability to post financial documents, both adopted budgets and audited financial reports, on their website. This bill allows for increased transparency and accountability in government by making financial information easily accessible to the public.
