Print this Article | Send to Colleague

Landowners seeking tax relief from Hurricane Helene can now access a certification form on the Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC) website. Pursuant to OCGA 48-5-33, the GFC has added a special certification form to its website that provides a mechanism for Georgia taxpayers to claim temporary tax relief from ad valorem taxes during the final quarter of 2024 and in any quarter of 2025 for “eligible standing timber,” which would otherwise be subject to taxation. To date, the GFC has cleared nearly 700 miles of forest firebreaks and roads for 130 landowners, as part of Georgia’s wildfire mitigation strategy to protect communities and forests.
