This October marks the 20th annual Cybersecurity Awareness Month. In 2004, President George W. Bush and the United States Congress dedicated the month of October for public and private sectors to work together to raise awareness about the important of cybersecurity.

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCA) have partnered to create resources and messaging for organizations, such as the 2023 Partner Toolkit, to use when they talk with their employees, customers, and members about staying safe online. This year, CISA launched a new awareness program called “It’s easy to stay safe online”. The program encourages four simple steps every American can take to stay safe online. These are simple actions we should all take not only during October, but every day.

CISA encourages you to incorporate the four simple steps into your own campaigns and promotional materials:
  • Turn on Multifactor Authentication (MFA)
  • Update software regularly
  • Use strong passwords and a password manager
  • Recognize & report phishing (Think before you click!)
