The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is pleased to announce the start of the 2022-2023 Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) grant cycle. LWCF is a federal grant program funded by the Department of the Interior-National Park Service (NPS) and administered by DNR. LWCF grants provide funding for acquisition, development, and renovation of outdoor recreation lands and facilities. Eligible applicants include qualified local governments (as determined by the Department of Community Affairs), authorized recreation authorities and recreation commissions, and state agencies.

The cycle will kick-off with educational webinars. DNR Grants Staff will provide an overview of the program; an understanding of the new Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP) based criteria questions; and an overview of the two-step application process. To ensure that we have enough time for a Q&A session, registration will be limited to the first 100 people.  You can register for either day at https://gadnr.org/lwcf.

Webinar options are:
1:00 pm – 3:00 pm, Wednesday, January 18, 2023
9:30 am - 11:30 am, Tuesday, January 24, 2023

The LWCF grant cycle is a slow process. To aid in your planning, the anticipated grant cycle timeline is below.
  • April 1, 2023 – Pre-application window opens
  • May 31, 2023 – Pre-application due to DNR
  • September 2023 – Successful pre-applicants notified
  • February 1, 2024 – Second-level application due to DNR
  • Late summer/early fall 2024 – Anticipated approval of projects by NPS
