Safety Pays in Many Ways

ACCG Insurance Programs Provide Safety Discounts & Safety Grants

Safety doesn't happen by accident.  Being proactive about workplace safety means taking the time to identify and analyze hazards and to determine the best way to lessen the risks for accidents.  Keeping employees, volunteers, and constituents safe should be a year-round top priority for leadership and all involved.

The ACCG Workers’ Compensation Fund and Property & Liability Fund encourage members in this effort by providing resources and financial incentives for doing so. Loss control resources are provided through Local Government Risk Management Services (LGRMS) at no additional cost.  Members also have the ability to earn Safety Credits on their annual Contributions and in the case of Workers’ Compensation, Safety Grants.

LGRMS completed audits for the 2022 ACCG Safety Discount Program last October.  The Workers’ Compensation Members that met the safety requirements received a 7.5% discount on their 2022 renewal Contributions, saving them a total of $2.3 million.  Those Members also then qualify for a portion of the $500,000 in 2022 Employee Safety Grants and can begin submitting their grant applications to ACCG in Spring of 2022.  More information to follow to eligible Members about the grant process.

Property & Liability Members that met the safety requirements will receive a 5% savings on their renewal Contributions for the coverage year beginning July 1, 2022.

The requirements for the 2023 Safety Discount Program are outlined in a new version of the Safety Discount Program Workbook.  There is a new requirement for those Members with public transit operations.  Workbooks will be mailed out to the Member Insurance Contact and Safety Coordinator and will be available online at the following links:

By instilling a positive safety culture that includes a safety program with safety procedures and equipment, leaders are committing to employee health and impacting the way employees feel about their workplace.  This allows employees to feel valued and empowered to take responsibility for the safety of themselves and others.  This should also result in fewer injuries, reducing downtime and costs resulting from claims.  Safety pays off in many ways.
