ACCG Interns Complete Summer Semester

Research and Policy Interns, Alison Kaye and Julianna Isbitts, and Law Clerk, Evan Long, have the distinction of being the first ACCG intern team to complete a totally virtual internship with the association. Despite the distance involved, Kaye, Isbitts, and Long were on hand to cover meetings and hearings, provide research, analyze data, perform legal work, write memos, and track legislation for the remainder of the legislative session held in June, another first. Their work has been invaluable to the policy and legal teams this summer.

Alison Kaye worked as a policy and research intern. She is a Master of Public Administration student at the University of Georgia (UGA) and plans to pursue a career in local government after earning her degree. Before starting the MPA program, Kaye received her Bachelor of Arts in History and International Affairs from UGA. She then went on to serve as an AmeriCorps Member in Washington, D.C. with City Year, a national education nonprofit. Kaye has a passion for public service and devotes most of her free time to baking and decorating cakes! During her internship, she tracked local legislation, covered legislative committees and floor action, compiled data on the origin of Georgia counties, helped update county revenue and expenditure data, researched and compiled data on CARES requirements and county expenditures, tracked COVID-19 safety responses by county governments, and tracked and compiled data on primary elections.

Julianna Isbitts worked as a policy and research intern. She is a third-year student at UGA pursuing an undergraduate degree in political science and a masters’ degree in public administration. In her free time, Isbitts enjoys cooking, painting, and listening to music. Upon graduation, she hopes to work on policy at the state or federal level. As part of her internship, Isbitts tracked local legislation, covered legislative committees and floor action, compiled data on the origin of Georgia counties, researched and compiled census facts and response rate data, summarized and compiled COVID-19 expense and revenue survey data, tracked monument removal actions by county governments, updated county workforce data, and tracked and compiled data on primary elections.

Evan Long worked as a law clerk. He is a third-year law student at UGA from Lilburn. He previously attended Georgia Tech, graduating with a degree in International Affairs in 2018. During law school, Long has worked for the Fulton County Attorney’s office, the Georgia State House Judiciary Committee, and the Western Judicial Circuit Superior Court. After graduation in 2021, he will begin a federal judicial clerkship in Augusta, GA.  During Long’s clerkship with ACCG, he worked on several projects for the legal department including writing memos on removal of monuments, compiling effective dates for passed legislation, researching HEROES and HEALS federal legislation, editing ACCG publications, updating public notice, reporting, and mandatory services tracking documents, performing deed and title work for ACCG’s lease purchase program, and  providing legal research on a variety of topics.
