We've Got the Rockies Covered

The electric power market is evolving worldwide — and across the Rocky Mountain region. No matter your power needs, we have the capabilities and integrated team to provide a safe, reliable and cost-effective solution — from concept to completion.

When the Empire District Electric Company sought to convert a simple-cycle gas-fired generating unit to combined-cycle operation, our team delivered a low-cost, high-efficiency project for its generation portfolio, also enabling the company to meet new stringent environmental regulations for air and water quality.

Burns & McDonnell served as EPC contractor to convert the existing 143-megawatt (MW) combustion turbine to a one-on-one combined cycle unit.

After Empire's upgrade at its Riverton Power Plant, completed under budget and a month ahead of schedule, the nominal net electric output increased to 255 MW — resulting in annualized savings of more than $1 million for Empire. Our case study shows how.
