The new administrative offices of the Soleno headquarters, located in the 1160 Route 133, in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, were recently officially inaugurated. The event was held in the presence of Mr. Jean Rioux, Federal Member of Parliament for SaintJean-sur-Richelieu, Ms. Claire Charbonneau, Municipal Councilor of the city of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Ms. Sylvie Brosseau, General Manager of NexDev - Economic Development Haut-Richelieu, members of the Economic Council of Haut-Richelieu, members of the board of Soleno as well as Ms. Judith-Ann Bélanger, Vice President of Business Development at Proservin, general contractor for this major project.

Mr. Alain Poirier, President of Soleno, delivered a moving speech followed by a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony. "I am very pleased to proceed with the inauguration of the new premises, it is the opportunity to offer our employees, whose number has increased, a pleasant and dynamic work environment, well adapted to our new needs" he says.

Representing an investment of $3 million, this new two-story building is equipped with a large entrance hall, several conference rooms and a cafeteria. With a total area of 14,250 square feet, it can accommodate about sixty people, from the departments of Finance, Human Resources, Engineering, Sales, Marketing, IT and the General Management, who moved in last July.

Harry Hallett, CanWel Commodity Trader for Eastern Newfoundland, recently celebrated his 50th Work Anniversary…that’s is correct 50 year Work Anniversary!!

On October 22, 1969, Harry started at the Canfor St. John’s NL window and door plant. Pierre Elliott Trudeau was in his 1st term as Prime Minister, #1 song was “I Heard it thru the Grapevine”, how appropriate, as Harry has made an indelible mark as a Trader and a Seller!!!

After a couple of years Harry moved to the warehouse, offloading rail cars. Harry recalls offloading a rail car full of cedar mouldings and standing back as you opened the railcar door due to the shifting. At the time Canfor stocked Marine Grade plywood which all had to be hand bombed and stacked into racks.

After several years Harry migrated to the sales counter, and it wasn’t long before he was making calls to Accounts. As Harry says, “you sold everything then”. There was no specific trader of lumber until years later. To this day, Harry still makes outside calls and walks dealer’s yards selling whatever he can of the products CanWel offers. Back when Harry made the annual pilgrimage to the ABSDA Show Harry was known as the man with the “least amount of sleep”, but would be the first one back in the booth in the morning.
