The Georgia Ports Authority has doubled its Toyota export business, as the company is now moving Highlander SUVs bound for Australia and New Zealand through the Port of Savannah's Ocean Terminal. A pilot program to import shipments of navel oranges from South Africa across Port of Houston Authority docks has proven successful and will be expanded next year.

The Great Lakes Towing Company completed an Intermodal "Short Sea" barge move utilizing the Port of Cleveland’s Rail Loop and the Port’s switching line, Cleveland Harbor Belt Railroad. The Port of Everett is adding additional lift capacity to its operations in March 2015, with the purchase of a new, 150-ton GHMK 7608 mobile harbor crane.

Port of Long Beach
The Port of Galveston ranks as the fourth busiest cruise port in the U.S. based upon embarkation, according to a recent study prepared by Business Research and Economic Advisors (BREA) for the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA). With nearly 13 percent growth in container traffic over the first two months of the fiscal year, the Georgia Ports Authority has made a strong start to FY2015. Larger vessels and the return of a former customer helped boost Port of Tacoma container volumes 10 percent last month compared to August 2013.

A cooperation agreement between the Port of Houston and the Port of Antwerp was signed on September 29 in conjunction with the kickoff of the 2014 Breakbulk Americas Conference. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Port of Seattle signed an agreement on September 29 moving forward with a $3 million cost-shared feasibility study to investigate potential port deepening alternatives.

Port Tampa Bay was pleased to host this week a two-day meeting and workshop of the Florida Transportation Commission, which provides leadership in meeting the state's transportation needs through policy guidance on issues of statewide importance and maintains oversight for the Florida Department of Transportation and other related authorities. Nearly 300 people visited the Port of Longview during the Port’s 2014 Community Tour Series, getting an up-close look at their local economic engine and finding a better understanding of how strong ports create strong communities.
