Houston’s steel cargo surged and operating revenue topped $24 million in July, reports Port Authority Executive Director Roger Guenther. First-half data show Port Metro Vancouver cargo volumes up 3.6 percent from a year ago to some 69 million metric tons, with foreign trade accounting for 54.6 million tons (3.5 percent) and domestic cargo for 14.5 million tons (3.8 percent).  A record TEU count and operating income revenue of $1.98 million headlined the first month of FY 2015 for the Port of Virginia.

Gov. Robert Bentley has named Daryl Dewberry, Horace Horn, and Ben Stimpson to the board of directors of the Alabama State Port Authority. Ted J. Fick will succeed Tay Yoshitani as chief executive of the Port of Seattle at the end of September.

Port of Long Beach
Valero Renewable Fuels Company has purchased and restarted operations at the corn ethanol refinery located on property leased from the Ports of Indiana at the Ohio River port of Mount Vernon. The Port of Long Beach has raised its commitment to buy goods and services from small and very small businesses. A ribbon-cutting ceremony August 21 marked the opening of the Aluminum Logistics Centre at the Relance Terminal in the Port of Sept-Îles. A leading international automotive industry supplier will invest approximately $150 million to expand its operation in the City of Newport News with the support of the Port of Virginia Economic and Infrastructure Development Zone Grant Program.

The Port of Anchorage on August 18 began a week-long collaborative Concept Planning Charrette to identify and refine concept designs for the Anchorage Port Modernization Project. Newly enacted legislation increases the Oxnard Harbor District's borrowing authority from $1 million to $10 million, allowing the Port of Hueneme to move forward with channel deepening and other improvements.

Standard & Poor’s has upgraded the Halifax Port Authority’s credit rating to ‘A ’ from ‘A’. The Railway Industrial Clearance Association (RICA) recently named the Port of Philadelphia the recipient of its "2014 RICA Most Improved Port Award for Customer Satisfaction."

The Port Authority Police Department (PAPD) on August 22 graduated 249 new police officers from its largest academy class ever, bringing the department’s staff level to an all-time high of nearly 1,800 officers. PAPD says the additional staff will meet its goal of reducing overtime costs.
