The Port of Baltimore recently began receiving Under Armour imported goods via a new Asian container service operated by Evergreen Marine Corporation. The Baltimore-based sports apparel company will ship approximately 800 containers a year through its hometown port. A ship from Europe loaded with wind equipment for a North Dakota renewable energy project now under construction by ALLETE Clean Energy (ACE) unloaded its cargo last week at the Duluth Seaway Port Authority’s Clure Public Marine Terminal in the Port of Duluth/Superior. When completed, the Thunder Spirit wind farm will be able to supply electricity to more than 39,000 local homes.

Carnival Cruise Line – New Orleans’ leading cruise ship operator by passenger volume – expects to carry a record 400,000 passengers from  the Crescent City  port this year.  Carnival Cruise Line will be bringing the 2,124-passenger Carnival Pride back to Tampa in January and February 2017 for a series of five- to 14-day voyages, providing consumers with a variety of vacation choices.

Port of Long Beach
The Prince Rupert Port Authority on August 25 welcomed Maersk Line as the latest ocean carrier to offer weekly service at the Fairview Container Terminal. The news comes at a time of double-digit growth for the port’s container trade.

The U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) has awarded the Port of Hueneme an approximately $1.5 million grant for wharf and berth improvements. According to the port, the project will create an estimated 127 jobs and retain 3, 000 existing jobs.

The Port of Oakland handles well over 2.0 million TEUs annually, accounting, it says, for 99 percent of the containerized goods that come through Northern California. That includes inbound shipments ranging from furniture and glassware to machinery. Outbound, containers are filled with products like edible fruits and nuts, meat and beverages.

The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners has updated the port’s sponsorship policy with the objective of bringing greater transparency and accessibility to the program. The Port of New Orleans launched a promotional ad August 25 on WWL-TV Channel 4. The 30-second "We Choose Louisiana" ad will be broadcast through November on New Orleans’ CBS affiliate and through the station’s digital media platforms. The Port of Oakland is partnering with Lend A Hand Foundation to help disadvantaged youth in the Oakland Unified School District. The Port of Seattle has dispatched fire crews from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport to assist with mutual aid to respond to the emergency arising from the Eastern Washington fire situation.
